OCTO accelerates ocean conservation.
Through our broad suite of tools and communities, we break down barriers to knowledge – empowering ocean professionals to apply best practices and science worldwide.
What we offer
Each year more than 75,000 ocean managers and conservationists use OCTO programs. They do it because our programs help them share knowledge, access science, and network with peers – no matter their location or financial means.
Over 70% of OCTO clients report our programs directly make them more effective in their conservation and management work.
Each of OCTO’s programs is the leading information service or knowledge-sharing community on its topic, from sustainable ocean management (OpenChannels and MEAM), to marine protected areas (MPA News), marine management software (EBM Tools Network), and marine litter and ocean plastics (MarineDebris.Info).
Our new MarXiv preprint service is working to make marine conservation science and marine climate science free to all – the first service of its kind in global conservation.
We also build custom solutions for institutions that require their own knowledge-sharing platforms.
By opening communications across the field and around the world, OCTO is speeding the advance of ocean conservation and sustainable management.
OpenChannels is the knowledge hub for the global community of practice on ocean planning, ecosystem-based management, and marine protected areas.
Marine Ecosystems and Management (MEAM) is the monthly information service on ocean planning and ecosystem-based management.
MPA News is the information service on planning and management of marine protected areas (MPAs).
MarXiv (rhymes with "archive") is the free research repository for the ocean and marine-climate sciences.
